Play Development
"The right to play is a child's first claim on the community. Play is nature's training for life. No community can infringe that right without doing deep and enduring harm to the minds and bodies of its citizens", David Lloyd George.
We have been funded under the Welsh Assembly Government's Cymorth grant scheme to provide FREE help and support to any voluntary or community group providing play opportunities within Cardiff. If you need help with finding funding, registration with CSSIW, staffing issues, training, police checks, filling in grant applications, setting up a new group, providing open access play or anything else please contact us and we will be pleased to come and help you.
The forum holds regular meetings and creative workshops; and produces a bi-monthly newsletter which is full of information about forthcoming conferences, jobs, play ideas etc. Please get in touch if you want to join the forum or have something for inclusion in the next newsletter. Or visit the Cardiff Play Forum page on this web site.
What is this open access play thing? Open access play provision is any provision in which the process of play is facilitated by staff in settings where children, including those who are under 8 years, are free to come and go as they please, free to decide for themselves what they want to do, why they are doing it and how they go about it. There is no contract between the playworkers and parents or carers to provide care for any duration whilst the child is present.
We have more than 50 excellent work sheets that you could use in the classroom or in your groups, giving you step by step instructions of how to make fantastic things from our scrap. Some are simple for younger children and beginners; some are more complicated. A wide and diverse variety of topics are covered including musical instruments, puppets, masks, hats, games and toys. You can download a few here or visit the store to purchase them all! Have a look at the worksheets at the bottom of the page.
