The BIG Idea
Well, you save money but why do we bother? The BIG idea is reducing our use of the world’s materials so that we don’t run out and neither do our children or grandchildren.
Reduce, re-use, recycle is our mantra! After reduction comes re-use. Re-use wins over recycling because it does not involve any reprocessing. Reprocessing means industrial processing which produces pollution. Through re-use we prolong the life of material without resorting to any industrial processing. 'Scrapstores' re-use materials. There is actually a double saving for the environment when you use 'Scrapstore' materials because you not only save those materials from filling up a landfill site, but those materials are also replacing new, usually over packaged materials which you would have consumed otherwise.
Re-Create provides a range of services to families, students and various children's groups such as schools, churches, playgrounds, play groups, crèches etc. The services we provide are:
The Centres most popular and important service is the Scrapstore. At the moment we collect from over 50 firms all around South Wales. The materials are re-used by over 90,000 children and young people through our network of member groups (over 8000).
Scrapstores represent a double saving for the environment. When a group takes material from the Centre they are taking something which has been saved from the waste stream (saving 1) and their use of that material displaces their purchasing of new (and probably over packaged) material (saving 2). As well as reducing waste and consumption, the scrapstore saves the community a huge amount of money. Members pay between 1/10 and 1/5 of the normal price of the materials. This means that we are saving the community several hundred thousand pounds per annum.
We also know that 75% of the adults working with our member groups are doing so on a voluntary basis. Last year 30,000 adults worked with our member groups so that 22,500 volunteers who work with children and young people in the community were supported by the project. If you would like to know more about the Centre or about Scrapstores in general ring us on 029 20578100.
Why buy from us? Because we save you money and we save your planet and we save you money! Do we need to tell you again? 'Scrapstores' are not providers of a second rate imitation of the high street. "Scrapstore' materials are inspirational. This is the stuff that kids (and adults!) get really excited about - like when you buy them a toy and they play with the packaging. Often it is the sheer quantity of our materials that astounds people. Think of any object, now visualise 5000 of them, suddenly all kinds of possibilities open up. AND if you can’t find it in the scrapstore then visit the arts and crafts section.
Arts and Crafts Section We have a whole section of our store dedicated to the arts and crafts. You can buy paint, brushes, clay, paper, card, glitter, glue, foam, sticky tape, beads, face paints, fabric pens, glass paints..and lots more. We try to respond to our members wants. We stock everything that you’d expect from an art and craft shop but with a little bit more for a whole lot less. We pass on the discounts from our suppliers to you. How low do we go? LOW! Come and see, we think you’ll be very pleasantly surprised.
Save Money Re Create will definitely save you money. Members pay between just 1/10 and 1/5 of the normal price of materials. This means that we are saving the community several hundred thousand pounds per year.

Getting sustainable Getting what? Sustainable Development is balancing social, environmental and economic issues together, to make sure that whilst we meet the needs of the present, we donít compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs and aspirations.
In everything we do, whether as individuals, as part of a community, or in our workplace, we have impacts on the world around us. The choices we make in our everyday lives such as what we buy, the way we travel and the amount of waste that we produce, have implications for the environment, the economy and society on a local level. Sustainability is achieved through balancing:
Here at Re-Create, we believe we have made a good start at being sustainable, but we are continually trying to improve. Here are some of the things that we do, why not see whether you can adapt some of these for your own situation?
